Do you love farming? Join us on our certified organic 80 acre abundant and beautiful farm. We grow a huge variety of nutritious vegetables for three farmers markets, a weekly CSA program, area restaurants and shops.
Our farm is located just minutes south of Perth, Ontario, a great little town with enough activity to ensure you don’t get bored but not so much that it would draw you away from the farm!
We are looking for a hard worker. Someone who enjoys working in all kinds of weather and along with the usual Ontario pests. Someone who is reliable, meticulous, takes pride in their work, a team player as well independent. We need someone who will take intiative as well as follow careful instructions. Someone who has experience farming or a somewhat similar activity such as tree planting, would be ideal. A driver’s license is a definite bonus.
We work hard and the work can be demanding, both physically and mentally. Hours can be long even though we strive to keep them reasonable.
We also have fun.
We offer the usual huge salary that all farmers can expect (!) as well as access to some of the most amazing vegetables in the region. Waratah Downs farm is a great learning farm; in addition to the vegetables and the varied marketing outlets, we have cows, sheep, chickens, ducks and a terrific farm dog called Fynn.
If you love to learn by doing, this is a great opportunity. You will be involved in all aspects of the farm operation including greenhouse, seeding, planting, transplanting by hand and machine, marketing, record keeping, planning, CSA management, website, market sales, deliveries, tractor maintenance etc. etc.. And, if you have leadership tendencies and enough experience, we will gladly give you responsibility for a particular area (ie. Greenhouse). We will be expanding our farm operations again this year so this is also a chance to be part of the set up of a greenhouse, expansion of cold storage space, etc.
This position runs from May 1 until October 31, 2015.
